Paul was born and raised on the prairies in Saskatchewan where he developed a keen interest in gardening on his parents' acreage. He and his siblings had many gardening chores from cutting and raking the acres and acres of lawn, and planting, weeding and watering the very large garden. Just before moving to Vancouver, Paul became interested in orchids and joined the Vancouver Orchid Society. Over the years the collection had grown to hundreds, but now has dwindled to a few dozen. Daylilies have definitely taken over with an active hybridizing program in progress. The wonderful thing about this hobby that started with Paul, is that it has now become a family affair. His sister, Maureen Ramsbottom and nephew, Benedict Ramsbottom help in hybridizing. Another nephew, Connor Ramsbottom, is the master web-site designer. And brother-in-law, Gene Ramsbottom, helps build and maintain the gardens.
I hope the talk 'Daylilies: Passion or Obsession' will convey our interest and passion for the hemerocallis.
